African Residents of Chiswick House in the 18th Century

Nadege Forde-Vidal will share with us a revealing story about the African residents of Chiswick House in the 18th century. Nadege is a London-based social historian with a degree in ancient history, and a masters in both Egyptian Archaeology and Museum Studies. She will introduce the research she has done for the Black Chiswick through History project at Chiswick House and Gardens which, this year, has delved deeper into the the lives of some of the men, women and children of African heritage associated with Chiswick House and estate in the 18th century. The talk will explore the life of one of these individuals – James (or Jim) Cumberlidge – who has recently also been the focus of a research project at Chatsworth.
